Next, head to Meknes, another imperial city, where you’ll visit significant landmarks like Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal Stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Conclude your day with a drive to Fes, where you'll stay in a welcoming Riad.
Begin your day in Fes with a hearty breakfast before delving into the rich culture and history of this imperial city. Start with a visit to the Royal Palace gate, then explore the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enter through the iconic Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud) and visit key sites within the Medina, including the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, and the Tanneries. Discover the Quaraouin mosque and university, recognized as the world’s oldest university.
Next, explore the Jewish quarter, known as "the Mellah," for a glimpse into Fes’s diverse cultural fabric. End the day with a visit to an ancient fortress for panoramic views of the Medina and the city. Return to your Riad for a restful night.
After breakfast, head south through Imouzzer to reach Ifrane, often referred to as "Switzerland of Morocco" for its cool climate, snow, and alpine-style architecture. Continue to the cedar forest, home to the Barbary macaques, where you can feed these friendly primates and explore the woods. Travel to Midelt for a lunch break, then cross the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and descend into the Ziz Valley, making stops for panoramic views along the way.
Arrive in the Sahara desert of Merzouga in the afternoon. Swap to camels and embark on a trek through the sandy desert, pausing to watch the sunset atop a high dune. Reach your camp, a blend of traditional nomad tents and modern comforts, where you can enjoy Berber drum music and dancing around a bonfire under the stars. Overnight accommodation is provided in the camp.
Start your day with breakfast and then set out to explore the Merzouga region. Visit sand dunes, natural lakes, mines, fossil sites, and captivating oases. Begin with an off-road drive to an old eyeliner mine, then visit local nomads in their handwoven tents, learning about their way of life and enjoying a cup of Berber tea.
Continue to the village of Khamlia to experience Gnaoua music and dance performances. The residents of Khamlia come from Sub-Saharan African countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Optional lunch can be enjoyed at a local restaurant before a walk through the palm grove. Visit Merzouga’s wild lake, also known as the lake of flamingos, and then return to Merzouga for dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel
Rise early to witness a stunning sunrise over the desert dunes. After an optional breakfast, leave the desert and head to Rissani, the old capital of Tafilalet. Explore Rissani’s bustling souk, especially lively on market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays). Continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop.
Travel through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a massive canyon through the mountains. Enjoy the towering red cliffs and explore the gorges. After an optional lunch, head to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the "monkey fingers" rock formation and a mountain viewpoint overlooking the valley.
