We begin our journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, with the first stop in Ifrane, often dubbed the Switzerland of Morocco for its clean streets, European-style houses, and cool climate.
Next, we head to the cedars forest near Azrou, home to the playful Barbary macaques, perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Then we continue to Midelt, a quiet town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, where you'll enjoy a delicious Moroccan lunch.
Our route continues over the Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass and along the scenic Ziz Valley, one of Morocco's most beautiful palm-filled valleys. Upon arrival in Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, you’ll switch to camels for a sunset camel trek across the golden sand dunes. This day is dedicated to exploring the wonders of the Merzouga desert region. We’ll begin with a scenic off-road drive to an old eyeliner mine and a visit to a nomadic Berber family, where you’ll share tea and learn about their traditions.
Then we head to Khamlia village, famous for its Gnawa music—a spiritual blend of African rhythms brought from Mali, Niger, and Sudan. After a musical break, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Later, stroll through a lush palm grove and discover Lake Dayet Srij, often called the Lake of Flamingos, where migratory birds gather. Your evening includes dinner and overnight at a charming local hotel in Merzouga.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Fes. Our first stop is Rissani, a historic town that once served as the capital of the Tafilalet region. Wander through its traditional souk, especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—a great place to shop for local products.
Next, we visit Erfoud, known as the gateway to the Sahara, and famous for its fossilized marble workshops. You’ll learn about ancient marine fossils found in the region and see how artisans craft them into stunning pieces.
We continue driving along the Ziz River, with a stop for a panoramic view of the palm-filled Ziz Valley. Our journey then takes us back through the cedars forest and Ifrane, arriving in Fes by evening.
