Wake up to the serene ambiance of Chefchaouen, often called “the Blue Pearl” of Morocco. Spend the day leisurely exploring this picturesque town at your own pace. Wander through the narrow, winding streets lined with charming blue buildings, each corner revealing a new photo opportunity. Visit the quaint shops and local markets, where you can find handcrafted goods and traditional Moroccan souvenirs. Immerse yourself in the local culture, interacting with the friendly townspeople dressed in their traditional attire. Enjoy a meal at a local café, savoring the flavors of Moroccan cuisine while soaking in the beauty of this unique town.
After an early breakfast, we will depart for Fes, with stops at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis and the historic city of Meknes. The journey takes us through beautiful countryside and rolling hills. At Volubilis, explore the well-preserved ruins of this once-thriving Roman city, marveling at the intricate mosaics and grand structures. Next, we head to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four Imperial cities, where you will visit significant landmarks such as Bab Mansour, the grand gate, the Sahrij Souani basin, and the mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. After a delightful lunch overlooking the medina, we continue our journey to Fes. Check into your accommodations at Riad Yacout or Riad Ahlam, located in the heart of the medina.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on a guided tour of Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart. Our knowledgeable local guide will lead you through the ancient medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back to the 9th century. Stroll through the narrow, cobblestone streets, where donkeys are still a common mode of transportation. Visit historic landmarks such as the University of Al Karaouine, the oldest continuously operating university in the world, founded by Fatima al-Fihri in 859 AD. Explore the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the Nejjarine fountains, and the famous tanneries, where leather is still processed in traditional ways. Discover the Jewish quarter, Mellah, and if you wish, visit a synagogue. Enjoy lunch within the medina, and return to your riad by mid-afternoon for some relaxation.
Start your day with a drive toward the Sahara Desert, with stops along the way in the charming town of Ifrane, often referred to as “Little Switzerland” due to its Alpine-style architecture and lush surroundings. Continue through the Cedar Forest, home to the endangered Barbary apes, where you might spot these playful creatures. The journey takes you through the picturesque Middle Atlas Mountains and the expansive Ziz Valley. After a lunch break in Midelt, resume your journey, passing through scenic vistas before arriving in the village of Merzouga by late afternoon. Check into your accommodations at Riad Madu or Riad Nezha, situated at the edge of the desert.
After breakfast, spend the morning exploring Merzouga. Visit a local oasis to learn how villagers use traditional irrigation methods for their crops. Head to the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnawa music, a unique blend of African rhythms and spiritual songs brought by former slaves.
