Tour Details
Overview
Escape the coast and venture into the soul of Morocco's stunning Anti-Atlas mountains with our 3-Day Tafraoute Loop. This journey is crafted for the traveler who seeks dramatic landscapes, authentic Berber culture, and a path less traveled. From Agadir, you'll journey to the historic walled city of Taroudant before ascending into a world of incredible granite formations, lush oases, and picturesque villages. The heart of the tour is Tafraoute, a town nestled in a valley of surreal, sun-baked rocks, including the famous painted boulders by artist Jean Verame. It's a short but profound adventure into one of Morocco's most unique and beautiful regions.
Itinerary
Day 1: Agadir → Taroudant → Tafraoute
Our adventure begins in Agadir as we drive inland to the historic city of Taroudant, often called "Little Marrakech" for its magnificent red-earth ramparts. After exploring its walls and bustling souk, we continue our journey, ascending into the majestic Anti-Atlas mountains. The landscape transforms into a stunning panorama of rugged peaks and deep valleys. We arrive in the afternoon in Tafraoute, a charming town surrounded by breathtaking granite rock formations. We'll check into our hotel and enjoy dinner with a view of the mountains.
Day 2: Exploring Tafraoute & the Ameln Valley
Today is dedicated to exploring the wonders around Tafraoute. After breakfast, we'll visit the famous "Painted Rocks," a massive land-art installation created by Belgian artist Jean Verame in the 1980s. We'll then drive through the picturesque Ameln Valley, a lush green oasis dotted with traditional Amazigh (Berber) villages. You'll have the opportunity for a short walk to learn about local life and agriculture. In the evening, you can explore the small town of Tafraoute, known for its silver jewelry and traditional babouches (leather slippers), before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Tafraoute → Tiznit → Return to Agadir
After a final mountain breakfast, we begin our return journey to the coast. The scenic drive takes us through the heart of the Anti-Atlas, with plenty of stops for photos. We'll descend towards the city of Tiznit, famous for its historic walls and as a center for silver craftsmanship. After a short visit, we complete the final leg of our journey back to Agadir, arriving in the late afternoon where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your Anti-Atlas adventure.
