Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech → Imlil Valley (High Atlas Mountains)
We leave the vibrant energy of Marrakech behind and drive into the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. Our destination is the beautiful Imlil Valley, a lush, terraced valley nestled at the foot of Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. After checking into a traditional Berber guesthouse, you'll have a guided walk through the surrounding villages, learning about the local agriculture and way of life. This evening, you'll enjoy a home-cooked dinner prepared by your host family.
Day 2: Imlil → Tizi n'Tichka → Ait Benhaddou → Ouarzazate
After a traditional breakfast with stunning mountain views, we depart Imlil and cross the famous Tizi n'Tichka pass. Our journey takes us to the legendary Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that stands as a powerful testament to southern Moroccan earthen architecture. After exploring this historic ksar, we continue to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco," where you can see the Taourirt Kasbah. We will spend the night in a hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day 3: Ouarzazate → Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
Today we journey east towards the Sahara. Our route takes us through the Skoura Oasis and the Dades Valley before arriving at the magnificent Todra Gorges. We'll take time for a walk through the towering 300-meter-high canyon. In the afternoon, the landscape begins to transform as we approach the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In Merzouga, you will meet your camel caravan for a memorable 1.5-hour trek into the desert to a traditional Berber camp, arriving in time for a spectacular sunset. The evening is filled with a delicious dinner, traditional drum music, and stories around the campfire.
Day 4: Merzouga → Rissani → Alnif → Agdz (Draa Valley)
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, you'll ride your camels back to Merzouga. Today, we take a different route back, heading towards the magnificent Draa Valley. We'll stop in Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region, to visit its authentic souk. Our route takes us through a starkly beautiful pre-Saharan landscape. We will arrive in Agdz, a charming town in the heart of the Draa Valley, where we'll stay overnight in a beautiful kasbah-style hotel.
Day 5: Draa Valley Exploration → Telouet → Marrakech
We'll spend the morning exploring the lush Draa Valley, an incredible ribbon of over a million palm trees that is dotted with ancient kasbahs. You'll learn about the traditional oasis farming system and the history of the caravan routes. In the afternoon, we begin our journey back to Marrakech, taking a detour to visit the crumbling but fascinating Telouet Kasbah, the former seat of the powerful Glaoui clan. We cross the High Atlas Mountains one last time, arriving in Marrakech in the early evening.
