Tour Details

Overview

Embark on the quintessential Moroccan adventure with our 4-day Desert & Atlas Traverse, connecting the two imperial cities of Fes and Marrakech. This one-way journey is the most spectacular way to travel between the cultural north and the vibrant south. You'll journey from the ancient medina of Fes, across the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, and into the breathtaking Sahara Desert at Merzouga. Experience an unforgettable camel trek, a night under the stars, and explore dramatic gorges and historic kasbahs before concluding your adventure in the "Red City" of Marrakech.

Itinerary

Day 1: Fes → Ifrane → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga Your adventure begins in Fes as we drive south into the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, the "Switzerland of Morocco." We'll then continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, home to Barbary macaque monkeys. After lunch in Midelt, we cross the Tizi n'Talrhemt pass and descend into the magnificent Ziz Valley, a vast oasis of palm trees. As we approach Merzouga, the landscape transforms into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. We'll check into a hotel at the dune's edge for the night.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert Exploration → Camel Trek & Camp Today is for exploring the Sahara. We'll take a 4x4 excursion to visit the village of Khamlia, listen to traditional Gnawa music, and meet a nomadic family. In the afternoon, you'll meet your camel caravan for a magical trek into the dunes. You'll witness a spectacular sunset before arriving at a traditional Berber camp for a night of dinner, music, and stargazing.

Day 3: Merzouga → Todra Gorges → Dades Valley Wake up to a stunning desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we travel to the towering Todra Gorges for a walk through the 300-meter-high canyon. Our journey continues along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" to the beautiful Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic "monkey fingers" rock formations. We'll spend the night here in a local hotel.

Day 4: Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → Ait Benhaddou → Marrakech On our final day, we drive to Ouarzazate and visit the legendary Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a thorough exploration, we begin our spectacular drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass. We will arrive in Marrakech in the early evening, where your grand traverse of Morocco concludes.
