Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Benhaddou → Dades Valley
Our journey starts with an early pick-up in Marrakech, heading straight for the High Atlas Mountains. We cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m), stopping for incredible views. Our main stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, a spectacular fortified kasbah. After exploring, we continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses, ending our day with dinner and an overnight stay in the stunning Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, we travel to the magnificent Todra Gorges for a walk between the towering canyon walls. Our journey then continues east towards the Sahara. As we approach Merzouga, the landscape gives way to the immense golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, you will mount a camel for a 1.5-hour trek to our desert camp. You'll witness a spectacular sunset over the dunes before enjoying a traditional dinner, Berber music, and a night under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Fes
Wake up early for a breathtaking desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we begin our journey north towards Fes. We'll travel through the beautiful Ziz Valley with its vast palm groves, and cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. We’ll pass through the town of Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou, where we might spot Barbary macaque monkeys. We'll also stop in Ifrane, known as "Morocco's Little Switzerland," before arriving in Fes in the evening. You'll check into your riad for a two-night stay.
Day 4: Full Day Exploring Fes
Today is dedicated to discovering Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities and the cultural heart of Morocco. With a local guide, you will navigate the labyrinthine alleys of Fes el-Bali (the old medina), a UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll visit the Bou Inania and Al-Attarine Madrasas, the Nejjarine Fountain, the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, and the famous Chouara Tannery. The day is a deep dive into centuries of history, art, and craftsmanship.
Day 5: Fes → Meknes → Return to Marrakech
On our final day, we depart Fes and make a stop at the nearby imperial city of Meknes. We'll admire the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the city's impressive walls. Afterwards, we begin the long but scenic drive back to Marrakech via the highway, passing through Rabat and Casablanca. This will be a full day of travel.
