Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Fes & Medina Immersion
Upon your arrival at Fes-Saïss Airport (FEZ) or the Fes train station, your private guide will greet you and transfer you to your traditional riad in the heart of the ancient medina. After settling in, you'll embark on a guided walking tour of Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Navigate its labyrinthine alleyways where donkeys are still the primary mode of transport. Your guide will lead you to historical treasures such as the Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest continuously operating university in the world. You'll also visit the famous Chouara Tannery to witness the age-old process of leather dyeing from a panoramic viewpoint. The day concludes with a delicious welcome dinner at your riad.
Day 2: Volubilis, Moulay Idriss & Imperial Meknes
Today is dedicated to exploring Morocco's rich history beyond Fes. After breakfast, we drive to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the remarkably well-preserved city, marveling at its stunning mosaics, grand basilica, and triumphal arch that tell the story of the Roman Empire's southernmost outpost. Next, we visit the nearby holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, a picturesque village perched on a hilltop and the site of the tomb of Morocco's most revered saint. We'll then continue to the imperial city of Meknes, the former capital built by the powerful Sultan Moulay Ismail. You'll be impressed by its monumental city walls and the grandeur of Bab Mansour, one of the most beautiful gates in all of Morocco. We will also explore the Heri es-Souani, the sultan's vast granaries and stables, before returning to Fes in the evening.
Day 3: Fes Pottery, Royal Palace & Departure
On your final day, we'll explore a different side of Fes. After breakfast, we'll visit a local pottery cooperative to see how Fes's famous blue-and-white ceramics are made by master artisans. You'll have the opportunity to see the entire process, from shaping the clay to the intricate hand-painting. Afterward, we will stop to admire the magnificent golden gates of the Royal Palace (Dar el-Makhzen). Depending on your flight or train schedule, you may have some free time for last-minute souvenir shopping in the souks. Your guide will then transfer you to the airport or train station for your departure, filled with memories of Morocco's imperial grandeur.
